Traveling with Soltura, you will meet English-speaking Cubans and learn how they feel about their country. You won't be pampered lapdogs, but you will eat well and sleep in agreeable accommodations. There is so much to see, and Ian will help you explore your own interests as well as keep up with his well-crafted itineraries. I recommend it for anyone willing to step out with an open mind in a beautiful country.

Cuba Review Soltura Cuba Travel

My wife and I visited Cuba with Soltura Cuba Travel for ten days in May/June 2017. We learned more about the country, people, and government of Cuba than we have about any other foreign country except those that we have lived in. The cadre of contacts at hand for Soltura means that we met with people that were informed, candid, and could satisfy our curiosities. Back in the U.S. we are still digesting all of the information we received.

If you want to visit Cuba via a cruise, go with another company. If you want a beach vacation, Soltura is not the solution. If you want to stay in luxury hotels, go shopping, and perhaps listen to some lectures at arm’s length, go with another company. If you are genuinely interested in Cuba and what my lie ahead in the near future, then Soltura Travel is for you.

My wife and I went to Cuba on a tour organized by Soltura Cuba Travel. We had a fabulous trip that seamlessly combined both authenticity and ease of travel. Pre-payment of all our accommodations and meals gave us the ease and convenience of an all inclusive vacation while our staying in private residences, dining in a variety of Cuban restaurants, and activities with a wide array of Cuban natives gave us full exposure to this remarkable country.

Ian was a fabulous tour leader providing us with unique opportunities to experience different aspects of Cuba while making sure all our needs were met. Our schedule was chock-full – we never wanted for things to do; yet Ian was flexible and sufficiently well connected to change things around to accommodate our individual preferences. His motto, which we heard on several occasions, seemed to be, “I can make that happen.”

On more than one occasion during our stay we remarked to each other how lucky we were to be on Ian’s tour. The first bonus was the size of the tour: there was just one other couple. The fact that Ian is willing to and in fact prefers smaller groups is definitely a plus. But an even bigger bonus was the unique nature of the activities that Ian had planned. We toured out of the way community art centers, sat in on the rehearsal of a children’s choir, got private tours of the Cuban art museum and the Institute of Fine Arts, and on most of our activities we never saw a tour bus belonging to one of the more established tour groups. We even got out of Havana, saw the countryside and spent some time at the beach. Finally, we had the opportunity to meet with and get to know a number of Ian’s Cuban contacts, several of whom will remain our friends hopefully for years to come.

Personally, I had trepidations about traveling to Cuba. After my trip with Ian, I look forward to returning many times.

Soltura Travel with Ian Sargent provided us an incredible Cuba experience. Not only did they select a wide range of activities and historical sites to visit, but they also provided us the opportunity to connect with several wonderful Cubans, which was an added benefit to our cultural experience. We were able to enjoy our travels stress free because of Ian and his team.

Soltura gives visitors to Cuba an insider's tour of a fascinating country, tailored to their interests and able to adjust to current events.

The company's owner, Ian Sergeant, draws on his wide circle of Cuban friends for guides and insight. That network helped get us into places tourists don't normally get to see. We got a special concert in a church basement given by students in a community choir and music program, and afterward got to eat dinner with the director. We were led through one of Havana's hottest night clubs and art gallery after hours by one of the curators. We got an after-hours tour of the lighthouse and castle guarding the port to Havana.

He made a point of making sure some of his Cuban friends joined us for every lunch and dinner. Over the course of our 10-day trip, we got to talk one-on-one to doctors, architects, students, artists, musicians, and a nurse-turned-taxi-driver.

The small size of the group -- we had only eight people in ours, with two to three guides -- gave the whole trip a personal feel. Our guides adjusted the schedule to our interests. When some of us wanted to go birding while one wanted to go diving, our leaders arranged for a park service employee to take the birders on a successful birding tour while another guide took the diver to a prime diving location. When Fidel Castro passed away during our visit, the guides adjusted our schedule so we could see what was happening in Havana during the historic event.

Ian didn't neglect the more commonly-known attractions of Cuba. We got plenty of time on the beach, visited the beautiful World Heritage site of Trinidad, and toured museums.

All the meals were included, and most were in excellent restaurants.

Instead of spending our nights in generic hotels, we stayed in the Cuban equivalent of bed and breakfasts, with time to bond with our hosts. The rooms we stayed in were all comfortable and often beautiful, though sometimes we had to share a bathroom with other rooms. It wasn't luxurious, but it sure wasn't roughing it. It was the perfect trip for people who want to have a real look at the country.
