I had a fun and satisfying session with Suzuki Sensei. Although new to martial arts, Suzuki Sensei's warm and encouraging teaching style made me feel confident during my first day. Before class started, she assured everyone that mistakes were welcome and inevitable. We were not penalized for making errors. Instead, we were encouraged to do a better job. New students would feel very welcome and sage training with her!

I took one of the intro classes while I was doing an internship at the dojo. It was quite a workout, so I recommend trying Aikido even if you haven't done so before.

Aikido Kenkyukai Santa Barbara is a wonderful place to volunteer and to train. There is a very respectful vibe to the dojo and the community is very friendly. As an intern I was able to learn alot from Lia-Sensei and greatly enjoyed working with her as she was very understanding and was a great boss/instructor to learn from. The intro packages are structured to be welcoming and challenge you regardless of your previous experience. The classes do a good job catering to individual needs and I look forward to seeing how Aikido Kenkyukai Santa Barbara continues to grow in the years to come!

Today is my last day as intern for AKSB, and I'm happy to say that I've really enjoyed my time here. Lia Sensei is a great employer, teacher and role model for the people in her class and those working for her in the non-profit side. I hope that AKSB continues with its current success and gains even more recognition for its great atmosphere in the future.

Please get involved with this organization in some way: either through their intro package and classes or through their internship program.

Working at Aikido Kenkyukai Santa Barbara introduced me to something very new. I have never heard of Aikido before beginning my internship here and have never done any form of martial arts. Therefore, my first class definitely took me out of my comfort zone.

I felt very new and uninformed about everything. However, everyone was so inclusive and willing to help that my first Aikido class was a positive experience. It was interesting to see the interaction with everyone on the mat. I slowly came to see that Aikido was not just about learning to fall, but also the physical communication between partners. I enjoyed getting to experience at least this little bit of Aikido because it wasn’t like anything else I have ever tried.
