Sheraton Columbia Downtown Hotel

For starters, It's an architectural darling, formerly a bank in the early1900's, so has that unique gothic revival flare. Secondly, AMAZING staff - always friendly and eager to make my stay more comfortable. Thirdly, the LOCATION is a wonder. if you're looking to be in the business district on Main Street or where the best restaurants & bars are in town, this is your space. If you choose to stay in, they have both a lounge that in a past life was a bank vault as well as a rooftop bar overlooking the city. Another perk: A STARBUCKS IN THE LOWER LEVEL OF THE HOTEL FOR YOUR MORNING PICK-ME-UP. I will never stay anywhere else in Columbia.
TO BE NOTED FOR CERTAIN PERSONALITY TYPES: you ARE in the heart of downtown - so while there are perks, there is also street noise ...and they do not discriminate against family members so they're dog friendly and fabulous

Parking very in inconvenient if you do not use valet; valet is twice the price. First night dog howling and barking two calls to the front desk later no solution. 2:00 AM I packed up went to front desk and asked for a different room; they obliged. I got into new room and there was another dog barking not as bad as the first, but disturbing. Street noise was an issue also, nothing they can do about that. I finally got to sleep. Next morning room coffee pot didn't work, went to preferred customer lounge, key didn't work, went to front desk others were there complaining about keys not working; we received shoulder shrugs from the help. I am guessing, for the same price, there must be better places in Columbia to stay than this. Other than the apathy regarding the coffee, the staff were very polite.

The hotel is an historic bank turned into hotel. It was very clean. It had original, old feel. The bed was very comfortable. It seemed to be under staffed. The valet was also the bell man. My car was left unattended with my keys in it while he brought up my bags. The front desk was unavailable most of the time maybe due to festivities and they were always outside. The housekeeper left my room unattended with door open and no where to be found when I came back. I am not sure if they were prepared for the huge crowd that stayed. But the staff was apologetic and sincere. It may be a better experience when there are no events going on.

We stayed at this hotel when we had to evacuate Florida due to hurricane Irma. The staff were very accommodating. The were full to capacity with nervous guests who had to flee their homes. There were people and dogs everywhere. The staff remained calm and friendly. Their "anything you want " attitude made everyone feel comfortable and at ease. The campus sorority sisters even made hurricane welcome bags with snacks and Gatorade. The town was very inviting even though many restaurants and shops were closed due to the weather. The stand out employee was Frederick for his work ethic. Thanks to all of you who made us feel welcome even when nerves were being stretched.

The hotel is in an old historic building and has the potential to be amazing. The fact that it has not met that potential is due to poor management. The club level upgrade gain member access to a 'high school teachers lounge' equipped with an assortment of sodas and very light snacks. The very cool bar in the bank vault, as well as the roof top bar, were tired and in need of remodel. The rooms are nice and the bed is comfortable. With a little work, this hotel could be a gem. But it is not in its current state. Get the work Sheraton HQ!
