Downes's is like a play area for adults. It has a couple of different sections, each with its own character: there's a pool room with a well-kept table, a hidden section with the look of a speakeasy, and a smoking area, in addition to the properly vintage main area.
Drinks are well-selected and they serve a very good pint of Guinness. The only downside is the pub's quite particular opening hours.

Quality bar, quality beer and spirits, full size snooker table and great music at the weekend. I'd rate this up there with Jordans on the Quay as the last of a dying breed of old-fashioned Irish pubs.

Fantastic proper Irish pub in the old heart of Waterford City. Not far from the quays and not far from O'Connell street and the pedestrian centre.

The bar staff are excellent, friendly and great craic. The pints are second to none, and the place is great for a big group. They even brew their own whiskey. Lots of drinks choices, lots of craft beers and gin options.

This is a proper Irish local, one of the best pubs in Waterford, they have off license and one side done up (Christmas 2016) to be a cocktail bar with a more modern look. The other side is still pretty much original with a billiards/snooker table and two squash courts in the back. Over 200 years old now and has it's own blend of whiskey called Downes No9 which is one of the better blends in Ireland. Most nights people are there for a quiet pint but there are regular music /vinyl nights. Top spot.
