Imagine fishing in one of Iceland's best Salmon rivers, in a landscape of volcanos. lava flows and hot springs. If you dream of catching Salmon on this magical island, we can only say one thing - there has never been a better time to go!
The RiverLangá has long been regarded as one of the best Salmon rivers in Iceland. In fact, it was one of the rivers that the visiting British anglers first fell in love with when they first discovered the riches hidden in Iceland's waters in the 1860's. Unfortunately, in recent years, to be able to afford one of the 10 rods available each day, to fish the 93 named pools has required very deep pockets. But now the time has come when many more fly anglers can have the chance to make their dreams of fishing for Salmon in Iceland come true. Atlantik Travel has an arrangement on this River, and can now offer angling here at a price that would have been unthinkable, even a couple of years ago. If you have ever dreamt of fishing for Salmon in the land of the sagas, don't hold back - the time is now!
The angling here, is for the most part, suited to single handed rods with floating. The locals are crazy about fishing flies in the surface using the riffling hitch - once you have tried this technique, traditional Salmon angling will never quite be the same again, it is just so exciting! A fishing trip to the Langá also means staying in one of Iceland's best angling lodges. Accommodation is on a full board basis and includes a gourmet dinner every evening. A guide and a 4-wheeled drive vehicle is provided for each pair of anglers. A days fishing in Iceland means up to 12 hours actually spent angling, so you really do get a lot of fishing for your money.
Our group tour has been arranged for the end of June, when the first fresh, silver, fish ascend the River. The expected bag for this week is around 5-10 Salmon per angler, but the 2010 tour averaged more that 13 Salmon to Atlantiks group. Although this is lower than later in the season, the average size of the fish can be higher. Most fish are between 2 and 4 kg, with the occasional bigger fish amongst them.
