Unscrupulous business practices and unsafe workmanship.
Took my Davey house pressure pump to them for repair because they are my nearest authorised Davey service agent. I had already diagnosed capacitor failure but wasn't certain if anything else was wrong with the pump and was happy to pay $20 for a bench test to be certain the pump was working before taking it home and reconnecting it.
They refused to give a quote for replacing the capacitor (5 minute job which I can do myself) and bench testing, quoting only their hourly labour rate (under $70/hr). As I figured it had to be a cheap job I allowed them to go ahead. Less than an hour later I was told the pump was working fine and charged $125, which I estimate to be double what the retail price of the job actually was. They did not fit a genuine Davey capacitor and no itemised invoice was provided.
When I got the pump home and reconnected it I found that it ran even when the power outlet was off because they had connected the capacitor incorrectly, so I ended up having to disconnect the pump again and do the capacitor replacement myself anyway.
I have reported the above experience to Davey and received no response.
